Commissioner of Health & Family Welfare is responsible for implementation of Maternal and Child Health Care and Family Welfare services (Family Planning, Antenatal Care, Postnatal Care including Immunization services) in Andhra Pradesh. It emphasizes on preventive and promotive care. Family Welfare Programme gets 100% financial assistance from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, government of India. Health Schemes of Andhra Pradesh
Government of Andhra Pradesh has taken many initiatives in the past to improve the health reforms of the state. Various health related schemes have been initiated and implemented to achieve the same goal of better health for the state. Most of these schemes are focused on providing affordable healthcare facilities to the needy and poor people at all times including emergency. These schemes also focus on proper management and monitoring of the health related policies and reforms effectively. Here are the details of some of the most important health schemes of the state:
Aarogyasri Community Health Insurance Scheme
Covering more than 50 million people, Aarogyasri Community Health Insurance Scheme is a social protection scheme to address severe health issues of people. This scheme is specially meant for the people who are living below poverty line. It offers them with an option of getting cashless treatment in private hospitals as public hospitals are not enough to cater to the needs of everyone due to the lack of expertise and infrastructure. This scheme provides health insurance for hospitalization up to approximately USD 4,500 in a year. It also covers pre and post operative expenses for these patients to give them a financial relief. Health camps are also organized on a daily basis as per this scheme.
Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI)
This is a special scheme of Andhra government to provide swift response in case of an emergency. This scheme helps in responding to the 30 million emergencies and saving around 1 million lives every year. To benefit from this scheme one needs to call on toll free number 108 from their mobile or landline for fire, police or ambulance emergency. All of the ambulances are well equipped with medical tools to fulfill the needs of the patient and patient’s data is shared with the hospital before his arrival at the same. All emergency related data is saved in electronic patient’s record, created and maintained by the EMRI control centre.
Health Management and Research Institute (HMRI)
As the name suggests, it is the sister organization to Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI). It is meant for primary health care of the rural population of the state and consists of various services along with the 9 integrated solutions including; fixed-day rural outreach services through mobile health vans, an around-the-clock calling center for medical advice, telemedicine pilots, an Innovation Lab where technologies for the health services are developed, blood bank applications and a disease surveillance program facilitating research as well as disease and disaster management.
Andhra Pradesh Health Sector Reform Programme (APHSRP)
Andhra Pradesh Health Sector Reform Programme was launched with the motive of strengthening governance and management in health sector along with the improvement of community participation and systems for accountability and improving financial management. To implement the reform work properly, a new unit namely the Strategic Planning and Innovation Unit (SPIU) was created and was led by the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom for three years till 2010. Its main responsibilities are development of plans, strategies and action points.
